P.J  (6 x 52 min)

P.J (Police Judiciaire) is a French police drama created in 1997 for France Télévision.  This long running series focused on the lives and work of police officers who were based in a station in the centre of Paris.  The series, which resembled Hill Street Blues, received critical acclaim for its rigorous authenticity, and its production innovations revolutionised many subsequent French police dramas. The last episode of this multiple award-winning series was aired in 2009.

"I directed six episodes of PJ.  One was the 100th episode in which the lead actor is kidnapped, brutally beaten and dies.  I wanted the scenes between the lead and his captor to reflect, as much as possible, the gruesome reality that such an awful situation presents. I really enjoyed working closely with the actors for these scenes.  They gave very convincing performances."
